G's Mom: Wie geht's? Bist du krank? (How are you? Are you sick?)
Me: Nicht so gut. Ich habe ein Schlumpf. (Not so good. I have a cold.)
My answer was followed by a lot of laughter. Because I meant to say:
Ich habe einen Schnupfen.
But I actually said:
Ich habe einen Schlumpf.

Ooops! I hate when that happens. Hopefully you chuckled too or I will show up to kick some butt. ;-)
Stuff like that happens to me too - when I am trying to take a German word and use it instead of an English word. Sometimes completely inappropriate stuff comes out of my mouth unintended. I am always hoping that this stays in the family and doesn't happen in public;)

I'm really making an effort to speak more. But I always seem to mix words up in front of G's Mom - maybe I'm nervous? I know she must make fun of me when we leave!
Do they have a Schlumpfette?

Yup - Schlumpfine!
Hey--Smurfs are Belgian! (Les Schtroumpfs)
I wouldn't mind having one myself!
Hah, that's great!
Very cute. I have this kind of thing happen to me all of the time. I guess I just need to speak MORE!
Still waiting for that epiphany.
