Mein erster Film auf Deutsch

Last night, instead of heading to our regular (original version) movie theater, I chose to watch Hostel 2, in German. G and I were fans of the first Hostel, and we talked about every gory detail for days. Actually, G never watched a horror film before I rented Saw. Isn't that crazy? He hadn't seen the classics like Friday the 13th, A Nightmare On Elmstreet, or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre...and the sequels and the prequels:) After Saw, he was hooked! So after a long wait, we were excited to see Hostel 2. Surprisingly, even with Quentin Tarantino involved, Hostel 2 was not as original or scary as the first. I still had to cover my eyes on some parts but we both were underwhelmed. But! For my first film in German, I could understand a lot more than I thought I would. I mean the story line is pretty simple - go to the hostel, get kidnapped, get killed - but overall, I wasn't playing catch up with every scene.

Caliente Samstag

Beautiful sweaty Latino girls and boys...bartenders that dance on the bar...never ending cocktails and shots...and super fast music that you don't understand but you can't help dancing to all night - hidden away in a tiny bar called Cohibar. Munich never ceases to amaze me!

Velveeta

I know it's cheesy - but I'm ordering one of these bikinis for my honeymoon!

Flitterwochen

Our first vacation together as husband and wife will be to.......
The Maldives! We are going to the Maldives for our honeymoon. The Maldive Islands are of group of tiny coral islands, or atolls, situated on the equator, in the Indian Ocean. To give you an idea of just how beautiful these islands are, they are described as, "the garden of Eden" and "the last paradise on earth". We are staying in a water villa built on stilts, overlooking a lagoon. We can't wait to watch the sunset together.

You know what? I have to be honest with you. As I write this post, I can't stop smiling and thinking, I really love my future husband!

Think about it...

This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, in it's place something that you have left behind.....let it be something good.

Sandkuchen

At G's request, his Mom sent me the recipe for Sandkuchen. G's Grandmother used to bake it when he was a boy...she would always bake a large cake for everyone and a little cake just for him (s-p-o-i-l-e-d!). It's called Sandkuchen, (sand/cake), because the inside of the cake is supposed to look like sand. It reminds me of the taste of yellow sheet cake or birthday cake. Except you don't really need the icing because it's so sweet and buttery - the crunchy outside crust is our favorite part.

What do you think...does the inside look like sand?

NYC Mama

My Mama loves me. She really really loves me. She's flying to NYC next week, to look for wedding gowns in the bridal district. She is convinced that she will find my dream gown. Isn't that sweet? And crazy! I know it sounds risky - my mother choosing my wedding gown - but we have a very unique relationship. We are best friends (for real) and we have the same sense of style. She knows what looks best on me and vice versa. She is the only person I trust enough to shop for something so important to me. She's taking my photos and measurements and of course, her digital camera so that I can see her favorites every night. And she's bringing her girlfriend along for a second opinion...and mental support if it comes to down to me actually making a decision! Wish us luck:)

Eierlikörkuchen!

This is my first cake baked from scratch! I am very proud of myself considering every other cake I've tried to bake has either burned, fallen apart, or inexplicably resisted turning into a solid form, no matter how long I've kept it in the oven. G's Mom bakes cakes that look like they should be in a Martha Stewart magazine and they taste even better. So with her expertise and my sheer will to learn, I will try to bake a new cake every couple of weeks. And I plan on posting pictures, no matter what happens:) The first time I tasted Eierlikörkuchen, (egg/liquor/cake), I immediately thought - Grandma's Pound Cake! My Grandmother bakes a lemon glazed, moist, and buttery pound cake that literally melts in your mouth. This cake is similar but with a hint of Eierlikör.

And to make my success even sweeter, G surprised me with..

Vanity Fair Rocks!

There will be 20 editions of the July issue of Vanity Fair, focusing on Africa. Annie Leibovitz shot all the covers to capture what looks like a "a visual chain letter" among international icons discussing the crisis in Africa. The Bono guest-edited issue's list of subjects include Oprah Winfrey, George W. Bush, Chris Rock, Maya Angelou, Condoleezza Rice, Bill Gates, Barack Obama, Goerge Clooney, Iman, Alicia Keys, Djimon Hounsou, Madonna, Desmond Tutu, Muhammad Ali, and Brad Pitt.
