The Inauguration of Barack Obama

Yesterday, over two million people traveled to Washington DC to witness the highly anticipated Inauguration of Barack Obama. I was one of them. I woke up at 4am, spent 2 hours on the Metro (normally a 20 minute ride), and stood outside on Pennsylvania Avenue for over 6 hours, with temperatures teetering just above 20 degrees. I even had to use a Porta-potty...several times. And you know what? It was worth every effort. The overwhelming energy of the people and the significance of that moment in American history literally brought me to tears. Amazing.

Drag Queen Sunday Brunch

I never thought I would say this but I have found an event that is totally worth
the half hour standing in line wait. No matter if you're straight, gay, or sitting
on the fence, Perry's Drag Queen Sunday Brunch is a guaranteed good time!

Fly Lounge

We found another winner. Love, love, love Fly. The inside of this tiny yet packed club resembles the interior of a private jet, complete with waitresses dressed up like naughty flight attendants. The music was so funky and unexpected - from Kanye to Bob Marley remixes, we stayed on the dance floor. And I'm still trying to figure out the meaning of the random cool bursts of foggy air that shot onto the dance floor.

Partying with Lindsay Lohan

On Saturday night, we were invited to The Park, one of DC's hottest clubs of the moment. I use the word invited because to my surprise, in order to get in, you have to be invited (on the list) or hold the much coveted VIP card. Okay.... But as we walked in, passing one beautiful bouncer boy after another, hostesses that looked like super models, plus the bartenders with minimal clothing and the interior - four floors of ultra modern decor, with views overlooking Franklin Square, I knew we were in for a treat. We started off with a group shot, The Lindsay Lohan. The ingredients - a Red Headed Slut with Coke. Love it! So much that we continued partying with Lindsay the entire night. The music was a perfect blend of electro and hip hop. G danced at The Park more than he did at our wedding! For our first club experience in DC, we struck gold.

The Dancing Crab

Have you heard of the famous steamed Maryland Blue Crabs? The ones that are served whole and you have to use a mallet to crack open the shell and then navigate your way through all of the sticky gooey stuff to pluck out the sweet delicious meat? Well, we decided to try them for the first time and they were awesome! We met up with Maria & Kevin & The Boy on Friday night at The Dancing Crab and gorged ourselves with crab meat, fries, and hush puppies. I have to admit, when I smashed my first crab and looked at all of the internal organs, I was a little bit intimidated. It was strange to just push aside the lungs (yes, lungs) and dig for meat in the tiny little creature. But by my second crab, I was concentrating too hard on finding the meat to think about my conscious! Horrible, I know. But we really had a fun night with Maria and Kevin. It's amazing how much you can see your own relationship in another couple's relationship:) And The Boy is soooooooo adorable and smart. Seriously, the baby knows sign language! And he was a total ladies man with all of the waitresses at the restaurant. I really think Maria and Kevin will have their hands full when he becomes a teenager. I mean, gorgeous and smart...Meine Güte!

First Impression

We love, love, love Virginia! After a week of house hunting, shopping, trying out some of the local restaurants, and hours of driving and exploring, we are so excited about living is such a beautiful state for the next two years. We will be living in Northern Virginia, which is only 30 minutes from Washington, D.C.. If I had to describe the area with one word, I'd have to say, it's very "GREEN"! I was overwhelmed by the abundance of trees. And from what we've been told, we can look forward to long hot summers and mild winters with very little snow - woo hoo! The homes and neighborhoods are gorgeous but expensive. Unfortunately, we did not make a final decision on a house. We are set to move in June so we will be taking another look-see trip in May. We both decided to narrow the search down to one area in particular so I'm not worried at all about finding something. The only bad part about our visit was that I didn't take any pictures in Virginia because I was too busy looking at floor plans, calculating square footage, and comparing closet space! But I managed to snap a few shots in Washington.
