Idiot Proof Wine

Wine snobs can stop reading now. Finally, the wine guessing game is over. If you like wine, but hate trying to pair it with dinner, then Wine That Loves may be your answer. These wines are designed to pair with the foods Americans enjoy most, and literally tell you on the front of the bottle what they pair with.

Genius!

The "O" Factor

No, not Oprah. Obama. It's pretty obvious to me that our new president's sense of style is already influencing some of our youth. I remember shortly after his election victory, there was a photograph of Barack Obama dropping off his daughters at school, wearing a North Face fleece jacket. When I saw that photograph, I said to G, "North Face just won the Lotto." Well, on Saturday, my girlfriend and I spent 6 hours Christmas shopping at the mega mall, Tyson's Corner. And we couldn't help noticing - there were so many African American teenagers wearing North Face gear...which in my opinion, is a new thing. Cool:)

The Good, The Bad & The Maggots

On Saturday morning, we decided to spend the afternoon at the Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets. We both have heard about the great deals you can find on high quality clothes from a lot of people who live here. Not your typical outlet mall stuff. So, in anticipation of a long afternoon shopping, I decided to make blueberry pancakes for breakfast - shopping fuel for the body. And when I cracked open the first egg in the pancake mix, I saw that my egg had 2 yolks. Twins. Isn't that supposed to be good luck? We decided it was and it was a sign that we would find amazing deals that afternoon.

So after 5 hours of shopping, it's official - I am a fan. My favorite outlet stores were Juicy, BCBG (I seriously started clapping my hands and squealing when I saw the racks of summer dresses on sale), Puma, and Off 5th. These stores really have an excellent selection with huge discounts. And out of all of our purchases, G found the coolest deal. Check out the silver Pumas.

G is well aware of the fashion faux pas of wearing mismatch athletic logos. He just refuses to accept it.

We couldn't go home empty handed, without a present for Denzel, so we stopped at Petco to grab a new Kong toy. We decided to buy the Dental Stick with the Stuff'n Tots treats. When we got home and opened the Stuff'n Tots container, we saw that it was infested with tiny dead flies and maggots. There was also some kind of spider web film on the inside. WTF? G immediately went online and wrote the Kong company a nasty e-mail. And then we discovered some of the maggots weren't even dead.....when we saw them crawling out of the container onto our kitchen counter. GROSS! We sent photos along with that e-mail. We can't wait to hear their response.

On Sunday night, we joined KT and her fiance for dinner, at Konami. We had a hilarious time talking about weddings and marriage. She and her fiance are both divorced so their perspective is a little different than ours. But hey, they are ready for round two! The sushi was......interesting. You know how when you take a bite of something and once it hits your taste buds, you instantly know something is off? I got that feeling with the first bite of a spider roll. And my suspicions were confirmed by a night of tossing and turning and a full day with a queasy stomach and no appetite. G had some stomach issues too. That was our first and last dinner there.

Summer Clearance Sale

I bought this tank top at Hot Topic for $9. I figured I can always use a
black tank, I like rainbows and what they stand for - peace, gay pride and racial diversity, and for the price, it's a bargain even if I just sleep in it. What do you think it means?

My Latest Obsession

I'm turning into a full blown housewife. I know this because lately, I've been on a Juicy binge. I'm sure you can remember when every Hollyweird celeb was wearing the signature sweats with JUICY splashed across their ass. Well, to my surprise, they've upgraded their sweatsuit line. Now they have super soft terry tracksuits in the yummiest summer colors ever. They've even extended the terry line to rompers and baby doll dresses. The tracksuits are so comfortable, perfect for running errands. They feel as good as my ratty faded MSU sweatshirt and mismatch pants, but they look a million times better.

Vintage Mickey D's

Well, after the 2nd day of Spring shoe shopping and coming home empty handed,
I broke down and ate a Filet-O-Fish for lunch. Man, it's been a long time. Why do the worst foods taste so damn good? And why do all of the fabulous shoes in Munich only come in sizes up to 40?

Hot or Not?

OK guys, here it is, my first Dirndl. I already know what you're thinking - the color is definitely contemporary but at least I chose a blouse that has the traditional puffy sleeves. The embroidered fabric really is lovely and you can't see it on the picture, but it also has pink suede detailing on the front. And my shoes, chocolate T-strap pumps, made with a wood platform heel. I thought pink or gold shoes would be way over the top, so I chose a nude (for my skin) pump.

Mein Dirndl

I finally purchased my first Dirndl, the traditional Bavarian dress. We're taking our parents to Oktoberfest, the day after the wedding and I must admit, I'm really excited to wear it but I'm also a little bit apprehensive because I'm wondering what kind of reactions I might get. I'm sooo not Bavarian:) I bought my Dirndl at Angermaier and surprisingly, the salesgirls were extremely nice and helpful. I think they gathered that I was completely out of my element. I'd like to think I'm pretty stylish but when you're talking about ruffled blouses and aprons, I'm lost. I originally wanted a basic black Dirndl but they pushed me, no - shoved me, into buying a gold embroidered Dirndl with a pink apron. Yes, even I'm shocked at that combination. So now I'm looking for shoes. I've seen traditional shoes but I'm wondering what's common with our generation. Pumps? Sling Backs? Mary Janes?
Any suggestions?

Lippenstift

G is in NYC with his Father until next week, so yesterday, I spent the entire afternoon shopping. I went to Marienplatz because in addition to looking for new jeans (I'm so over straight legs), I needed to pick up a new nude lipstick from MAC. After changing my hair color, my favorite everyday pink lipstick now looks a little cartoonish! Well after six hours and a gazillion stores, I came home with a white cotton T-shirt from H&M. That's it. I can't explain it. I saw so many things I liked but once I tried them on, everything was just blah. Don't you hate that? And despite the super nice boy (wearing more make up than any girl in the area) from MAC, helping me try on about 15 shades of lipstick and liners, I couldn't make a decision. I didn't buy one! You know he wanted to scratch my eyes out.
