It Hurts So Good

Last night, we had dinner with our friend, KT, at Ariake. She's been telling us for a while now that Ariake is her favorite sushi restaurant in Virginia and considering the fact that KT is from Virginia and likes to eat out as much as we do, we had high expectations. Well, it did not disappoint. The sushi was excellent and the Chef's Specials were especially creative. My favorite was the Spicy Crab. Now, I love spicy food. So much that there have been occasions when G has broken out in a sweat while eating some of concoctions. My Mom hates it when I cook Greens because she says I ruin the entire pot by adding too many Jalapeño peppers. And with sushi, even when I order something labeled spicy, I have to add a little Wasabi to give it that extra kick. But the Spicy Crab at Ariake? It's on a another level. For the first time in my life, I woke up in the middle of the night with heartburn. Me? Heartburn? I told G about it this morning. But I did not complain. The Spicy Crab was so good, it was worth the burn!

1] Being from the Caribbean spicy food is in my blood... I loves it tooo

2]I have an unhealthy obsession with sushi! Like I loves it a lot! I have to eat it almost weekly or else I'll go thru withdrawal!

So I'm right there with ya!

I am addicted to sushi too. I have sushi for lunch almost every day. I'm not kidding - 5 out of 7 days a week on average. I make it at home. It's so easy and healthy.

And Caribbean food? All I have to say is JERK, JERK, JERK!

Wow, I'd never tried that place before (although I pass it all the time when home). I always thought it couldn't be good!

If you want some eating out tips, my favorite Mexican restaurant is Tortilla Factory in Herndon. The Russia House restaurant in Herndon is also excellent. My favorite Italian place is a little deli next to the restaurant Dolce Vita in Fairfax (sorry, I forget the name). My second favorite Italian is San Vito in the Franklin Farms Shopping Center. If you want authentic Chinese & Vietnamese, go to Eden Shopping Center. Almost all the restaurants in the Reston Town Center are really good too. McCormack & Schmidts is our favorite seafood place. If you make it out to Manassas, my mom's restaurant is in the old town and is called Siam Classic. Oh, and if you're missing German food, the best in the area is at Euro Bistro in Herndon.

KT told us it used to be a Jack in the Box when she was growing up!

Thank you for the recommendations. It's funny that you mentioned a German restaurant - G's colleagues were looking for a place - we will definitely check out Euro Bistro. And your Mom's restaurant too:)

Jack in the Box can't be right, that's a West Coast thing, never had any in Virginia. I'm trying to remember what it was though... hmmm. I think it was a Korean barbecue when I was in HS. Can't remember before that. IMing my bro, he say no way to Jack, says it was a McDonalds from late 90's through about 2004.

Oh, and don't expect top notch German food at Euro Bistro. It's the best in the area, and it's good, but after everyone had built it up to me, I was a little let down.

My brother wants you to know that Reston Kabob has good gyros and stuff. Also Melting Pot has good fondue. Both are at Reston Town Center.

I hope we're not overwhelming you with recommendations here. I'll stop now!

Jack in the Box is in the south/southwest too. My husband and his teammates used to chose it over steak on roadtrips of the basketball type. I once had six bags of JITB after a game for him and three teammates. OK... sorry for the tangent.

Not at all - we appreciate the suggestions. I already told G about Euro Bistro and I think he and some work buddies are going to check it out this week for lunch. I'll let you know what they say!

What is your email address? I see that you can be contacted on your blog but I wasn't sure if that was private. And I can't seem to find any of your old messages in my google account - can you give it to me again? Danke:)

I think I tried Jack in the Box in California...I had a chicken sandwich....not good. But maybe the meat is better.
