A sandwich is a sandwich.

But a Manwich is a meal.

Tonight, G will have his first Sloppy Joe ever! Lately, I have been on a mission. I want G to taste all of the foods I grew up eating. Every week, I'm giving him a little sampling of typical "American" food. He has tried and loves Macaroni and Cheese. He's sitting on the fence about Green Bean Casserole and Twice Baked Potatoes. And my all time favorite topping for toast, Apple Butter, is now his favorite. Next week, he'll try a real blast from the past, Malt-O-Meal.

This is awesome! What'd he think of a sloppy joe?

If you have a Trader Joe's nearby, I have to give props to their frozen macaroni and cheese. Best I've ever tasted.

I know some people have a problem with the texture of Malt-o-meal but I love the stuff. Especially the maple and brown sugar kind.

Hmmmm, I think you have inspired me to do an entry on foods from childhood. Of course, I'll be linking back to this entry! :)

LOL! What about Dairy Queen? Hamburger Hotdish? There are a lot of foods... LOL!

Oh, and has he had "real" Mexican food yet? That'll be a shocker!

He LOVED it! I bought the maple and brown sugar Malt-O-Meal - it's so much better than the plain. Thanks for the link:)

I'll have to ask him about Dairy Queen but he was addicted to Cold Stone Creamery when we first met. And believe it or not, he introduced me to real Mexican in Mexico!

Will he retaliate with a Weißwurst and a Bavaria Blue?

What about stuff like Rice-A-Roni? Did you eat that as a kid? I still love that stuff, as well as Mac and Cheese. If you happen to be in/near the Pennsylvania area, you have to try out some regional specialties like 'scrapple'. That one usually polarizes (even Americans).

Ha! He wishes. Fortunately, I'm a vegetarian! But he introduced me to so many German specialties when we were in Munich. I'm really missing Brezn'and Kaiserschmarrn:( Oh, I love an ice cold Russn.

We didn't eat Rice-A-Roni...is it good? And what on earth is "Scrapple"?!?!

I grew up on the stuff, and I got my German ex addicted to it. My mom used to have to send it by the boxload! *lol*

You've never had scrapple?!?!??!

Some folks like to eat it with ketchup, but I strongly recommend maple syrup.

Enjoy!
