Seafood Pizza

One of the best things about Michigan is PizzaPapalis.
Many, many years ago, when I used to wear french braids and friendship bracelets, I tasted my first bite of Seafood Pizza and I was forever hooked! Loads of crab meat and jumbo shrimp - I can not think of a better pizza topping. While they are known for their Chicago style pizza, the thin crust pizza is just as good and not as heavy. G tries
to say that it's just "ok" but considering the fact that we polished off a large 17 inch in record time, I kind of think he's a fan too:)

Oh man, I haven't thought about Pizza Papalis in months. I guess that streak went out the window.

If you haven't already, give Buddy's (and also Louie's...but I think they only have one location). Buddy's and Louie's are at the opposite end of the spectrum, in my opinion.

Pizza Papalis offers a big show with fancy ingredients and they really back it up with presentation and product quality (especially their sauce...man, I love their sauce). Classy, tasty 'za. No question in my mind.

Buddy's, by contrast offers what looks like run-of-the-mill square, thick pizza. And then you dive into one those puppies. Yowza. Also, they do something I think the call "cheese fries" but they're really more like potato wedges - and they are certainly worth a meal by themselves. Favorite Buddy's location: Squirrel Rd. at Walton Blvd. near Oakland University. I hope they're still there. I know there are others - like 13 & Van Dyke or something in that area.

And then there's Louie's in Hazel Park. Rumor has it, Louie had a buddy named...well, Buddy and they didn't see eye-to-eye on some aspect of the business (not sure what) and they split. But the pizza at Louie's (and I've only been there a few times) struck me as just as worthy as Buddy's, but even...I don't know...more laden with Street Cred. Smaller selection, definitely gritty locale, but damn...still a great experience. Makes you almost* unashamed to be drinking a Labatt blue there with your pizza, with your foam-mesh trucker baseball cap and big honkin' sideburns on. Louie's can make that happen, so be careful.

Guten Appetit!

*Almost, but not quite.

We are on the same page with a lot of foods, Cliff! Although Buddy's is a just too thick for me - I think it's because Germany ruined me with so much amazing Italian pizza. I wish we had more time in MI to try Louie's - I am all about the Street Cred spots;)

when i moved out of dusseldorf i was really worried about not being able to get decent take-away food or finding nice eateries in the neighborhood. although i have had to adjust my standards somewhat, imagine my surprise when i discovered the best little pizza place just around the corner. it's about as comfy as a train station waiting room, but the italian guys working there really know what they are doing. i ordered a salmon, spinach and onion pizza there once, and thought i would get a normal pizza with some thin slices of smoked or cured salmon draped on top once it came out of the oven. i was absolutely gobsmacked when i got a spinach and onion pizza topped with huge, juicy chunks of pan-fried salmon. hmmmmmm! it's ALL i ever order there.

MMMMM! Don't you just love it when something exceeds your expectations! That sounds awesome. It reminds me of my favorite Tonno Pizza (tuna/onion) from L’Osteria in Munich.

I love pizza tonno, too! Also tuna with spinach and onions.
