Auf Wiedersehen Deutschland!

On Saturday, we are flying back to America. G made a major career move that will take us to Virginia - for 2 years. We are feeling so blessed and so excited about this opportunity. And knowing that we are coming back to Munich makes it that much sweeter. I really do love this city! To say that the last week has been crazy, is an understatement. It was much easier coming over than leaving! My house consists of boxes, boxes, and more boxes. Oh, and our bed in the middle of the living room floor. But I think the hardest part about the move is realizing how sad G's parents are about us leaving and trying to balance those feelings with my happiness about being closer to my family and friends. I've spent so much time getting to know G's country and culture and now he will have the chance to know mine.
God is good!
So party people, my next post will be from the good ol' US of A.

Überraschung 2

For the second year in a row, I gave G a surprise birthday party. Last year, his friends and I surprised him at News Cafe. This year, I planned a dinner party at Sushi + Soul. We really love this restaurant because it reminds us of restaurants in the US, meaning it's a lively atmosphere. It's always super busy and they play background music - house music. I miss that vibe! In general, German restaurants are relatively quiet. Or maybe I'm just loud. Anyway, they have a private table that features traditional Japanese seating. It was perfect for a small dinner party. And even with G secretly reading my SMS messages and asking about the details of our dinner plans over and over again throughout the day, I managed to surprise him - again.

You know you've had a good birthday when you go home with a bottle of wine and a bunny!

Tiramisu

I've been holding out on you guys.
I have the best (easiest+fastest+tastiest) recipe for Tiramisu. It's G's all time favorite dessert. He was ecstatic when I made it as a surprise for a very special celebration dinner - more on what we were celebrating later:)


I forgot to tell you that my Lieblingslehrerin and I started exchanging recipes. This recipe was the first one of hers I tried. Danke E!

Rezept
für Tiramisu
2 Eigelbe mit 150g Zucker und 4 EL Ameretto so lange schlagen, bis sich der Zucker gelöst hat. 500g Mascarpone einrühren. 200ml Schlagsahne steif schlagen und ebenfalls unterheben. 24-28 Löffelbiskuits nur mit dem Rücken in 250ml starken Espresso tauchen. Mit der Hälfte der Biskuits den Boden des Rechteckigen Behälters auslegen. Die Hälfte der Macarponecreme darüber verteilen. Die restlichen Biskuits darauf legen und mit der Creme zustreichen. Verschlossen im Kühlschrank über Nacht ziehen lassen. Vor dem Servieren dick mit Kakaopulver bestäuben.

Guilty Pleasures










After visiting The Big Finn and reading about one of his guilty pleasures, I thought about my own.

Here are my top 3 guilty pleasures:

*Moulin Rouge*
Whenever I'm feeling down or uninspired, I pop in this DVD. I'm not too sure how many times I've watched it but I know almost every line and absolutely every song. No joke. And I can not watch the movie without reciting the lines (in character) or singing every song.

*Super Dickmann's*
Imagine a humongous marshmallow, covered in chocolate, on top of a think crispy wafer. Mmmmm. They aren't so indulging but when you eat the entire box, that's taking it to another level. Why, why, why, do they come in boxes of 9? It's not only me - G will even eat them for breakfast, smashed between toast.

Babies II

Last night, G and I met Christina, Rainer, & Oliver for dinner. First, I have to mention that Oliver is 7 months old now. Time really flies...
Remember that "delicate" tiny baby I talked about in September?
Well now, he is an active, bouncing, expressive and still, always smiling, baby boy. He is itching to walk! And don't even get me started on those blue eyes. We had a delicious Lebanese dinner at The Cedar Lounge. The hummus was so good, G asked me if I wanted to lick the empty bowl! It was nice to catch up and of course, talk about babies. Christina mentioned that she is so surprised that Oliver has those gorgeous blue eyes, because her eyes are so dark. I guess when you have multiracial parents, you never know exactly which features will be passed on to the baby. That made us wonder, what will our white chocolate babies look like....dark skin, light eyes? tanned skin, light hair? dark hair, dark eyes, light skin? One thing is for sure, our babies will be huge. I am 5'11 and G is 6'2. Yup, HUGE.

It's a wrap!

And I'm back. I took the Zertifikat Deutsch on Saturday. Wow. The exam was much more difficult than I had expected. I mean, I knew the general format of the exam because we took a practice exam a couple of weeks ago but the material was really confusing. So confusing that I started panicking and second guessing every answer. I used the entire eraser on my pencil. Or maybe it wasn't confusing, just advanced. Nothing like the elementary exercises in our books. But, even with all of the worrying and last minute cramming -
I am the ultimate procrastinator - I just tried my best. And isn't that the most that you can ask of yourself? I won't receive my results until early May. Ahhh! Nerve wrecking. So now the question is, after almost a full year in intensive courses, 7 books, 5 teachers, hours of memorizing verbs, a ton of exercises and tests, so many nights of arguing with G over his criticism of my pronunciation, and countless daily conversations with neighbors, strangers, and the girls at the grocery store - can I speak German? Yes! Ich spreche gerne Deutsch. Don't get me wrong, I am not fluent. I still have a long way to go until I would feel confident enough to say I'm fluent, with a straight face. A loooong way. But I finally feel like I can at least, hold my own in most conversations. And that's saying a lot. But, what happens now, now that I'm not in school anymore? Honestly, we speak English at home, simply because it's easier and faster. Great for G. Bad for me. I don't want to forget everything, after all of the hard work. I would like to be fluent - I have to be able to teach my white chocolate babies, right? :) Again, all I can do is try my best to continue learning. This afternoon, G and I both agreed that we will speak German for at least 2 hours every evening. It's not a lot but at least it's an attempt at a commitment. Wir werden sehen!

It's a sign.

Denzel and I slept until 1pm today. That was a first for me. I still can not believe I was so exhausted and achy to sleep so long. And considering that Denzel didn't wake me up to go out, he must have been mighty comfortable sleeping in his Mama's arms! As expected, the other symptoms of a cold have started.

I am definitely getting sick.

Well, after the 2nd day of Spring shoe shopping and coming home empty handed,
I broke down and ate a Filet-O-Fish for lunch. Man, it's been a long time. Why do the worst foods taste so damn good? And why do all of the fabulous shoes in Munich only come in sizes up to 40?
